The Seiwa-en Japanese Gardenat Missouri Botanical Garden is popular with St. Louis residents. The arched wood bridge to Teahouse Island is photogenic from various locations in the garden. The boardwalk which is surrounded with water irises that bloom in the late spring - early summer is a favorite with adults and children alike, while children are attracted to the koi fish that can be fed and observed from another bridge. In spring and autumn the garden is painted with lovely colors and if you can get the timing and light right, the wisteria that blooms on Teahouse Island is gorgeous. Visiting after a fresh snow on a crisp cold day one can find peace and tranquility. Truly this garden can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Carondelet Park, just minutes from my home, is a lovely little city park in the old Carondelet neighborhood of south St Louis in Missouri. Some old stone buildings and old stone bridge add a rustic feel to the park. Being close to the Mississippi River, it sometimes enjoys the beauty of morning fog which adds atmosphere.

Forest Park, originally established for the 1904 World's Fair in St Louis, has become the most beloved park of the city. The zoo, art museum and history museum are located there along with a golf course and numerous other facilities. It seems that sometimes it is hard to find a quiet spot - but it is possible.

The Missouri Botanical Gardens is world renowned and certainly a Saint Louis gem. The thoughtfully designed gardens within this park possess beauty and variety throughout the year and are a haven of peace in the midst of its urban surroundings. Snowfall in St Louis while the trees are still displaying their autumn colors is indeed rare. However, that is what occurred on one fall day in 2018. Although I was called away on personal business for the morning, I was able to slip over to the Japanese Garden at Missouri Botanical Garden for a few hours in the late afternoon. What a glorious opportunity to capture this rare event and the beauty of the fall foliage juxtaposed with the fresh snow.
