Tuscany is the embodiment of "la dolce vita"... where you can sit back and enjoy the good life. Good food and wine amidst the relaxed atmosphere of rural Italy. The photographs in this gallery capture the essence of that life - Centuries old farmhouses, wineries, stone courtyards. Such are the things that make Tuscany feel like a comfortably worn old chair.

Agriturismo in Tuscany

The warm colors of this agriturismo in the Val d'Orcia combine well with the white stone steps and the grey gravel. We rented an apartment room here for a week, enabling us to explore the region and relax to the rhythm of Tuscany.

Bagni di Lucca

This is not a typical image that people would associate with Tuscany. Bagni di Lucca is in northwestern Tuscany in the region called the Garfagnana. The town is nestled in the valley of the Serchio River amongst the Apuan Alps. This spa town attracted the likes of Byron, Shelley, Dumas, Rossini, Lizst, Verdi and Puccini to mention a few.

Walk Down a Tuscan Lane

The solitude of a stroll under the Tuscan sun down a quiet lane in Tuscany is just what the soul needs. This image was captured on my 2014 visit to Tuscany. I have added warmth and sepia toning to give it a romantic feel that is Tuscany.

I cannot say for certain that this is an old mill but the architecture seems to hint at it. This scene was in a valley far below a hill town somewhere around Montalcino.
